IZOLYATSIA GULAG: Russian Concentration Camp in Donetsk?

Image
A shadow entity, Izolyatsia Prison should be a ghost, a place that does not exist. However, there has been many leaks of this so called ''concentration camp'' that was established in a former art centre in the rebel occupied Donetsk territory in Ukraine. Accusations of torture, inhumane treatments, conditions so vile that one has to think how people can survive there. This ''prison'' is said to be so pestilential that it's even too much for Russia! ART CENTRE TURNED PRISON Before it was a notorious prison filled with allegations of abuse and barbaric conditions, Izolyatsia was an art centre and factory. After the capture of Donetsk in 2014, it started to play host to a penitentiary. And if this wasn't enough, it also serves as a training centre for DPR fighters and depot for military equipment, weapons, and various other technologies. The status of this establishment is shady as prisoners are often prosecuted in a sham Donetsk court and are tortu

UKRAINE: Why we need to care!

Image
The destruction of Ukraine is now in its third day. The horrors that Russia keeps inflicting on this independent country keeps shocking the world more and more. If we thought that first and second day were bad, the third day is even worse.  The Russian forces are getting closer to Kyiv, in fact some are in the capital, destroying it with bombs and mass shooting. United States predicts that the Ukrainian capital, and seat of the government, will fall in the next few days.  A residential building in the suburbs of Kyiv that was damaged in the conflict After Kyiv will fall, Russia is free to install its puppet government and fully take over Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could be executed. What kind of horror are we, in the West, allowing to happen in Europe?  I, for one, knew about the existence of Zelenskyy in a joke conversation about how a young comedian became president of Ukraine, and now I am writing about his impeding death. That is a too sick thought to bear! WHY ARE WE I

UKRAINE: They will fight... but so can we!

Today will be remembered as a dark day in the history of Europe, and Ukraine. It's the day that Russia, unprovoked, launched a mass scale invasion on the peaceful, Western-leaning state.  War in Europe... something that should have stayed in the Second World War era! Mr Vladimir Putin is losing popularity in the West by the truckload. He is being compared to Hitler. But, these are just words. Words can affect, sure. However, what Ukraine needs right now is action.  Protest organised on 24 Feb outside the Russian Embassy in Helsinki, in support of Ukraine Praying and supporting Ukraine through Facebook and Twitter is nice, but it won't stop this injustice. The bodies pile up every moment that Russia is allowed to bomb cities in Ukraine. They aim at hospitals, at apartment buildings, military compounds, airfields. A kindergarten was shelled a few days ago, in a false flag operation, with small children nearby. Nothing will stop Russia, and Vladimir Putin, to achieve this

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN UKRAINE?: Mercenaries, Cyberwar.... No invasion?

Image
This week things have heated up in Ukraine. We have been sitting on the edge of our seats, those of us who are following this conflict. Russia has been building up the troops, moving hardware and keeping the world guessing. What is the next move? When is the next move? What are they even hoping to achieve? Ukrainian troops training for potential conflict with Russia These questions can only be answered by one man, and one man only: Mr Vladimir Putin, the master puppeteer of the Russian Federation. He is the key to peace in Europe, or a certain bloodbath for both Ukraine and for Russia. How many young people, innocent people, have to keep dying in Ukraine, from all sides, before we can see Mr Putin happy? In our last post, we established over 14,000 people died in the Donbass conflict so far since 2014. People keep dying there even in present times  because the conflict has not finished.  MERCENARIES IN UKRAINE There is chatter that dozens of Wagner Group mercenaries have been

NORD STREAM 2: What is it and why is it important?

Image
One option in the West's toolbox has been the threat to cut Nord Stream 2 from operations. Germany isn't delighted with this idea. Cutting gas acquirement from Russia means that Europe is left in an energy crisis. With finances decimated from pandemic restrictions, surging energy and life costs affect the bottom dollar of every European household. So, lets see what Nord Stream 2 is and why is it so hotly debated in the fight to prevent a European war. WHAT IS NORD STREAM 2? Nord Stream 2 is the sister project to the already functioning gas line, Nord Stream 1, that has been operational since 2011. It is an offshore project running from region of St Petersburg to Lubim, North-eastern Germany. It runs through the Baltic Sea, under the water. The pipeline was estimated at around 9.5 billion euros, but costs have run up to 11 billion euros. Its main shareholder is Gazprom. The project was started in 2018, and was due to be completed in 2019, but was finished in September 2021. Now,

THE MINSK AGREEMENTS: What are they and why is Russia pushing them so much?

Image
With Ukraine still plummeting towards war, Russia keeps lamenting that the European Union and NATO must make the bullied Eastern European country agree to the terms in the Minsk agreements. However, what exactly are they? Why are they so important to Russia? How does Ukraine see these treaties? Well, these questions don't really have a simple answer, so let's have a look in today's blog post.  THE MINSK PROTOCOL The Minsk agreements are a series of pacts created to end the war in the Donbass region of Ukraine. The Trilateral Contact Group (Ukraine, Russia, and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)) wrote the Minsk Protocol in 2014. After a lot of discussion, the Trilateral Contact Group and representatives of the Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic, which were non-recognised at that stage, came to some sort of consensus. The Normandy Format leaders (France, Germany, Ukraine and Russia) with President Lukashenko of Belaru
