MURDER: JonBenét Ramsey (PART 3)

In Part 2, we saw how the case was mismanaged by the Boulder police from the very beginning. We also looked into the autopsy results and they revealed that JonBenét suffered a terrible death. She was struck in the head with a heavy object, strangled with a garrote and sexually assaulted. Writing samples from her parents showed that John was not responsible for writing the ransom note, but Patsy could not be ruled out.

In the final part, let's have a look at the DNA sample found and who could be responsible for this wicked crime.

JonBenét's beauty and youthfulness is what makes this case difficult for many people

DNA FOUND

DNA evidence was found at the crime scene. The sample was from an unidentified person, and it was detected under JonBenét's fingernails. The same DNA was found in her underwear.

This DNA is not related to anyone in the Ramsey household or family.

John Mark Carr's mugshot
In 2008, a man called John Mark Carr confessed to the murder. However, police soon proved that he was not involved. This was a fake confession spurned on by his obsession with the case.

SUSPECT

The Boulder police suspected the Ramsey parents from the first day of the investigation. The reasons are quite many:
  • How did John know to go to the basement first when the police investigator suggested he search the home with his friend, Fleet White?
  • Why did Patsy's handwriting samples have similarities to the ones written on the ransom note?
  • Why did the parents hire two sets of lawyers and refused to co-operate with law enforcement when their daughter was found dead?
  • There are also reports that hours after finding the body, John Ramsey called his pilot to prepare the plane to fly to Atlanta. Why would a bereaved father want to go on a business trip in such a short time after finding his daughter strangled and bludgeoned to death?
There are some other speculations of suspects, such as a man who used to dress up as Santa Claus and come to the Ramseys' home. However, this was not possible as he had heart surgery at the time of the murder.

Another one is a man named Michael, who allegedly confessed his guilt to a coworker. He committed suicide two months after JonBenét's death. The police could not tie him to the crime.

MAYBE THE BROTHER WAS RESPONSIBLE?

Burke did an interview with Dr Phil in 2016. It was one of the first times he opened up publicly about his sister's death, and he was acting quite bizarrely. He was smiling and laughing nervously when he was responding to Dr Phil's questions about JonBenét. Dr Phil addressed the strange behavior, and said that the young man was very personable, but he was nervous. Burke's behavior in the interview, according to Dr Phil, is a normal manifestation when interviewees are anxious.

This was a young boy who was thrust in the spotlight when his little sister died. He is not a celebrity or wished to be famous. He could be acting odd because he was traumatized and uncomfortable.

One theory is that Burke did something to JonBenét, as he was a bit of an aggressive and violent child.

Experts theorize that JonBenét woke up in the middle of the night. She saw Burke and Patsy in the kitchen making the pineapple and milk snack, and she also wanted to enjoy some. Maybe she reached in the bowl and grabbed one pineapple chunk with her fingers. This could explain why her DNA was not on it. Burke got angry that his sister touched the food, and hit her over the head with the flashlight. Maybe the hit was so hard that it made JonBenét fall unconscious.

The parents didn't want to lose both children, so they staged JonBenét's body to make it look like a sexual violent crime was committed.

JonBenét and Burke had a beautiful childhood in pictures, maybe reality was different.
Some question how it is possible for a nine-year-old child to hit so hard? Firstly, maybe Burke was full of adrenaline and that gives a person extra strength. Secondly, children have fragile bones at that age, so it does not require that much force to break their skulls.

This could explain why Patsy was wearing the same outfit from the night before.  Also, why the flashlight and notepad, along with the ransom note, were in the kitchen.

The Ramseys had been cleared by the police. However, the case was looked over by a grand jury and they suggested that it goes to trial. The District Attorney shot that down quickly, citing the unknown DNA found at the murder scene and on the body.

Patsy Ramsey died in 2008 from ovarian cancer. She had a relapse.

CONCLUSION

John Ramsey is hoping that advancements in technology will mean that the unknown DNA sample can be analyzed more thoroughly and a credible suspect can be identified in the death of his daughter.

It is quite hard to say what transpired in the moments before JonBenét died, and no one wants to think that it was the family that was responsible. It is quite plausible that Burke did something, and the parents tried to protect him. Certainly, Patsy sounded very upset on the phone.

I don't believe that Patsy or John would have hurt JonBenét on purpose. I think that they loved her very much. It is entirely possible that they would try to do everything they could to protect Burke if he were to do something. I don't think any parents relish at the idea of their only living child going through the court system and ending up on a manslaughter charge.

But, what puts a strong dent in the theory that it was the family is the fact that JonBenét was sexually assaulted with the paintbrush. This would suggest to me that it was an offender outside the family and this crime was sexually motivated.
