The Beautiful Butcher: Omaima Nelson (PART 1)

Bill Nelson thought he met the love of his life in young and beautiful Omaima. Their tale could have been a storybook romance, but instead it turned gruesome. On Thanksgiving Day in 1991, Omaima wanted a little more special meat than what could be bought in stores, so she set her gazes closer to home to hunt down her prey, and quell her appetite.

Omaima Aree Nelson was a beautiful woman with a very tragic past. She was born in 1968, and grew up in a small farming village in Southern Egypt, close to the Sudanese border. She, along with her mother, had suffered immense sexual and physical assault the hands of her father. Omaima's lawyer is quoted to have described him as "a violent man, had a very bad temper.''

Her mother managed to break free from the marriage. As money was tight after the divorce from the patriarch of the family, Omaima and her mother moved to a slum in Cairo.  It was nicknamed the "City of the Dead" because of its many cemeteries surrounding the city.

In the slums, life wasn't much better. When she was 18 years old, Omaima met a local American man, who was working in the oil industry in Cairo. They fell in love and started to have a sexual relationship. Omaima's mother was very concerned because in Egypt, at the time, deflowered women found it very difficult to find a local husband. Virginity was very important for an Egyptian marriage. Therefore, Omaima decided that she would move to USA with her new lover when his job contract ended. 

Another thing to mention about Omaima is that she was a victim of female genital mutilation (FGM) when she was seven years of age. Egypt is thought to have the greatest number of women and girls who have experienced FGM than any other place in the world. A purported 87,2% of all women between 15-49 years old in Egypt, out of 90 million people, have suffered this procedure. It makes normal life painful with difficulty to have sexual intercourse, excruciatingly hard to give birth, and sometimes even difficulties to pee. 

Once in the USA, Omaima and her foreign spouse were married in 1986 and settled in Texas. However, the American dream fell apart rather quickly. Her new husband was abusive, so Omaima left him. She was now 18 years old, in a foreign country where she did not speak much English. Still, she was beautiful and determined to make it at all costs!

Her new plan was to meet another man who could offer her stability. Once she realized that she could use her looks to get her lovers to pay for what she needed, she turned to seducing older men in bars. After a series of short relationships, Omaima decided to move to sunny Orange County, California. There she worked as a cleaner and nanny and sometimes as a model due to her good looks. 

In 1991, Omaima thought she struck gold when she met the tall, gregarious William Nelson. From the first glance, she knew that he would be her next target.

WILLIAM "BILL" NELSON

William "Bill" Nelson was a larger-than-life character that was very hard to miss. From his shiny, red cowboy boots to his shiny red Corvette, Bill wanted people to notice his vibrant personality. He was originally from Texas, and was living in Orange County. 

Formerly a pilot, he bragged about having a big cattle ranch down in Texas. Bill wanted to present himself as a wealthy individual. His family was rather large, with five children and seventeen grandchildren. He was 33 years older than Omaima, with her being 23-years-old and him being 56-years-old respectively. Omaima was attracted to the comfortable lifestyle he could provide. She was craving the kind of security that a man like Bill was offering. 

Omaima was hanging around a bar one night, that was located close to Bill's home. He was playing pool when the stunning, young creature walked in the joint. They started talking and Bill was smitten from the first sight. It must have been a strong attraction as the couple were married a short five days later! 

After the marriage, the couple took a short honeymoon to Texas and Arkansas so that Bill could introduce his new love to the family. There is one story where Bill's family went on a horse-riding outing with Omaima. She fell off the horse and the whole family thought she should get some medical attention. However, Omaima asked for some aspirin and vodka, got back on the horse and went on with the rest of the day. One of Bill's kids exclaimed, "This gal is one tough cookie!''

A few weeks after their road trip, the couple returned to California and started preparations for Thanksgiving. Bill called his daughter to brag about how everything was going, and how great their Thanksgiving dinner would be. 

That would be the last time that Bill would speak with anyone from his family...

MURDER

On November 28, 1991, Thanksgiving Day, Omaima claimed that her husband had sexually assaulted and raped her in their apartment in Costa Mesa, California. In self-defense, she bludgeoned him with a lamp and stabbed him in the head with a scissors 25 times.

What Omaima did next is the most bizarre thing!

She took the lifeless body of her much-older husband and started to dismember him. She took his torso and skinned it. Then she chopped of his genitalia, cooked his head and started to boil his fingers to get rid of fingerprints. She tried to get rid of some of the meat in the garbage disposal, which neighbors reported they heard going all weekend.

POLICE ARE NOTIFIED

Bill's employer reported him missing when he did not show up at work after a few days. She was concerned that he would never miss work unless something bad happened to him. 

At the same time, Omaima, took some overstuffed garbage bags, packed them in Bill's red Corvette and drove to the house of an old flame, Jose. She asked him to help her dispose of the body, opening the garbage bags to reveal human remains. She needed his truck, or some kind of vehicle, to transport the rest of the evidence.

She also offered him US$75,000 and two motorcycles for his assistance. She explained to him that Bill forced her in a bondage game for days and was sexually assaulting her. She managed to free her hands and use a lamp to kill him in self-defense. 

Jose was calm, and told her to wait outside while he went to get the truck. He immediately called the police, who was on the scene a short time after...

In Part 2, we will have a look at the bizarre case the police are confronted with and the eventual trial of Omaima Nelson. And, believe me, what police found and the courts heard are beyond belief!
