The Beautiful Butcher: Omaima Nelson (PART 2)

When drop dead gorgeous, wannabe model and ex-nanny Omaima Nelson decided to butcher her much older husband, and cook him with the Thanksgiving leftovers, she bit off more than she could chew. In Part 1, we went over how the young seductress charmed her man, caught him in her trap by marrying a few days after meeting him, and then proceeded to kill him after their whirlwind honeymoon.

Omaima needed some help to dispose of the body, so she approached an ex-lover, José. The poor man, having his ex with a bag of human remains in her car on his doorstep, immediately called the police. They came over straight away and began a crazy investigation.

The victim, William "Bill" Nelson

POLICE INVESTIGATION

Omaima denied everything when the police arrived and started questioning her about José's claims. She told officers that Bill was on a business trip in Florida. One police officer described her as ''co-operative, but the answers she's giving to the questions, are, uh, a little bizarre.''

They looked inside the red Corvette and found the trash bags with human remains. Inside one of them, police found Bill's lungs. A coroner's investigator even pointed out a black spot on the lung caused by smoking.

Bill's remains mixed with turkey meat

The next place police investigated was the home. There, they found Bill's hands in frying pans, cooked with turkey meat. The freezer was also full of body parts. The District Attorney is quoted to have said in one interview, "There was hot dogs. There was, uh, peas. There was carrots, and in the back was Mr. Nelson's head.

The freezer where Bill's head was stored

The head had been cooked in a deep fryer! His body was so precisely dismembered that the investigators were wondering whether she had done this before!

In the bedroom, the bed posts were broken and the mattress was covered in blood. The remains of Bill's ankles suggest that he was the one being tied up.

Omaima's rape examination turned out to be negative. The wounds on her body were consistent with someone that dismembered a body, according to medical experts.

Omaima said of the murder, "I don't remember how I killed him. All I remember, I get up, like I said, and I find him and he’s in a trash bag. I wish I knew how I killed him, though. Something inside me told me that I had to do it, like demons."

Another disturbing fact in this case is that around 35 - 45 kg of Bill was unaccounted for. This made the police wonder whether Omaima ate parts of him, or maybe she used the garbage disposal to get rid of the evidence?

TRIAL

One year later, in December 1992, Omaima Nelson was put on trial for the murder of her husband. One of the prosecution witnesses testified that when he dated Omaima, she did a similar thing to him. They had a consensual bondage session, where he was tied up. Then, she pulled a gun on him and demanded money. He managed to free himself and wrestle the gun out of Omaima's hands. The witness went on to say he was too embarrassed to report it to the police.

Other crazy details that came up in the trial was from the defense side. While in prison awaiting trial, Omaima spent a lot of time with a psychiatrist to undergo psychiatric examination. The medical professional testified that Omaima revealed that she "put on red shoes, a red hat and red lipstick before chopping up and cooking her husband's body. She said she prepared his ribs like in a restaurant and said aloud, 'It's so sweet.'"

Her lawyer outlined the fact she had been abused her whole life. Everyone in her family either beat, tortured or molested her, which led her to have severe PTSD. She had fantasies of being a descendant of Ancient Egyptians and they acted through her or spoke to her.

A forensic psychologist claimed that Omaima was sexually abused by Bill. The psychologist testified that Bill demanded oral sex daily and would berate Omaima that she was not doing it properly. This was very degrading to her and made her psychotic. It was also outlined how Omaima believed that these Ancient Egyptians told her to kill Bill. She chopped him up, because in Ancient Egypt, if the body is scattered, the person won't go to the afterlife. And she was trying to avoid having Bill in the afterlife.

When Omaima took the stand, she outlined how Bill sexually abused her by handcuffing her to chairs and assaulting her, and even once threw her cat out the window. She lost it on the night of the murder, when Bill allegedly brutally assaulted her, so she attacked him with scissors, a lamp and even a clothes iron.

The jurors had some sympathy for her because of her difficult life full of abuse. Her defense team were hoping to get acquittal based on self-defense, or at a least an involuntary manslaughter charge. However, the jury found her guilty of second-degree murder and she was sentenced to 27 years to life in prison.

In 2011, she was denied parole as she did not seem remorseful enough for the crime.

While in prison, Omaima met, and married, an older man in a wheelchair. They were allowed to have conjugal visits. He passed away soon after and left his younger wife a lot of money!

Omaima will be eligible for parole in 2026, aged 58.

CONCLUSION

This story was one of the craziest cases I have looked into! Not only it is one of the most disturbing and goriest, but the most surprising thing is that it was done by a woman.

Her life was awful, that is true, and she was treated by people in a way that no one deserves. But, this is not a good enough reason to excuse what she had done. Maybe 27 years in prison is not enough, so I hope that they keep her in there for good. I hope that she also got some mental health treatment as it sounds to me like she was suffering from some issues there, and if unresolved could lead her to killing more in the future.
